Acts 7:1-2,51 Amplified Bible (AMP)1 AND THE high priest asked [Stephen], Are these charges true?

2 And he answered, Brethren and fathers, listen to me! ...

51 ...you are always actively resisting the Holy Spirit. As your forefathers [were], so you [are and so you do]!

Stephen was on trial for his life before the High Priest. Stephen makes a very important point. You can resist the Holy Spirit. God gave you a free will. You can resist God or you can resist the Devil, but you cannot resist both. You will serve one or the other. You are either for God or against God.

James 4:7 New International Version (NIV)

7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

You have the power to choose, submit yourself to God or to resist God. I want you to notice how this works. Take the time to look carefully, to ponder fully, the implications this has on our lives. You can choose to resist or to submit yourself to God. If you submit yourself to God then you will be resisting the Devil, but when you resist God, you have submitted yourself to the Devil. Be careful. Please do not resist God.

Sometimes you might say "God can't you make so and so do such and such?" God will not make you submit to Him. God will not make so and so submit to Him. God gave us a free will and He is not going to take our free will away from us. God is not going to interfere with anybody's free will. Otherwise, God would not allow anybody to go to hell. With the power to choose come the consequences for those choices.

Sometimes we call the Holy Spirit the "conscience". Your conscience was given to you by God to keep you from sin. When you have that gnawing feeling on the inside that you should not do such and such then listen to the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is trying to lead you down the path God has chosen for you. Do not resist the Holy Spirit or you will end up submitting yourself to the Devil.

Here is the key. Be sensitive to the Holy Spirit. Obey the Holy Spirit. Do not resist the Holy Spirit. He is only trying to lead you into green pastures. God is trying to lead you into completing your destiny and reaching your destination. God has plans of fullness, completeness, satisfaction, nothing missing, and nothing broken for you. God gave you the Holy Spirit as a helper and counselor to aid you. Do not resist the Holy Spirit. Submit yourself to the Holy Spirit and you will see the power of God flowing through every part of your life.

Speak the Word:Father I submit myself to you and to the Holy Spirit. I resist the Devil and all forms of sin. I have chosen God and I will not change my course.
