1 John 4:16 New International Version (NIV)

16 ...God is love...

Do you believe that God is love? Many Christians say they believe that God is love, but do we really believe that? Here let me show you what I mean. In 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 God describes what love is. This is God's definition of love. I am going to replace the word "love" in these verses with "God" and I want you to ask yourself "Is this how I view God?" Here we go.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8 Amplified Bible (AMP)

4 God endures long and is patient and kind; God never is envious nor boils over with jealousy, is not boastful or vainglorious, does not display Himself haughtily.

5 He is not conceited (arrogant and inflated with pride); He is not rude (unmannerly) and does not act unbecomingly. God (God's God in us) does not insist on His own rights or His own way, for He is not self-seeking; He is not touchy or fretful or resentful; He takes no account of the evil done to Him [He pays no attention to a suffered wrong].

6 He does not rejoice at injustice and unrighteousness, but rejoices when right and truth prevail.

7 God bears up under anything and everything that comes, is ever ready to believe the best of every person, His hopes are fadeless under all circumstances, and He endures everything [without weakening].

8 God never fails [never fades out or becomes obsolete or comes to an end]...

Do you ever wonder "is this God?" or "is this God's will?". One way to find out is to ask yourself "Is this love?". God is love. That does not mean that God has some emotional preference for you. Agape love is an action not an emotion. God will always be patient towards you. God will never boil over with jealousy. God is not boastful. These are all actions. God will never do anything to hurt you.

Speak the Word: Father you love me. You love me with all of your heart, all of your mind, and all of your strength.
