1 Corinthians 5:6 New International Version (NIV)
6 Your boasting is not good. Don't you know that a little yeast works through the whole batch of dough?

If Satan came and talked to you, about killing somebody, you would shrug it off. You would not even give it a second thought. Even if you were mad at the person, you would still shrug it off as bad idea. Yet, if Satan came to you and suggested that you tell a white lie you might consider it. I know I have.

My boss come over to me and asked me about a project I was working on. At times I was stuck. If I point my finger at so and so I can shift the blame on them. The thought of telling a little white lie enters my mind. I have the opportunity to lie or to tell the truth. I wish I could tell you that I have always told the truth. I have not. Sometimes those white lies will snow ball on you. Before you know it, the lies have gotten out of hand.

That is what this verse is about. When you allow even the smallest of sins to enter your life, that sin will affect your whole life. That small, insignificant sin will grow until it works its way into every part of your life. That small piece of leaven (yeast) grows until it affects the whole batch of dough.

When you put yeast into dough, it starts to germinate and multiply. Before long, that small amount of yeast has affected the whole batch of dough causing it to rise and fill with air pockets. Sin does the same thing to our lives. It starts small, seemingly insignificant. Over time, it very subtly puffs you up. Sin makes you believe that you are right and that it is no big deal.

If I only knew how much those little sins would cost me, I would have never done it to begin with. Satan will never tell you how much sin is going to cost you. Satan is going to try to sell you on the momentary pleasure of sin. Satan will try to get your eyes off Jesus and get your eyes on pleasing your self. The problem is sin will leave you empty and puffed up. Sin never satisfies. It always leaves you wanting more.

Do not get caught in the trap. Keep your focus on Jesus. Think the Word. Speak the Word. Do the Word.

Speak the Word: Father, I will not get distracted. I will keep my eyes focused on you. I will think the Word, speak the Word, and do the Word.
