1 John 4:7-8 New International Version (NIV)
7 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.

The more you know about God the more you will know about love. This verse did not say that God loves, it said that God is love. This verse is not talking about something that God does but something that God is.

This might make more sense, my shirt is red. Red tells me something about the shirt. I cannot separate the red from the shirt. Red describes an essential property of my shirt. Love describes an essential property of God. You cannot separate God from love. Everything that God does is love. When God is absent then love is absent.

1 John 3:23 New International Version (NIV)
23 And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us.

Would God command you to do something that He does not do? Would God command you to "love one another" and not do it himself? Of course not! God is teaching you to be like himself. God is love and God is teaching you to how to be love. So open yourself up and let the love flow.

Speak the Word:Father, I am becoming like you, love himself. Love describes me.
