1 John 4:8 New International Version (NIV) 8 ...God is love.
Is there fear in God? No. Is there fear in love? No.
1 John 4:18 New International Version (NIV) 18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
The word "perfect" in this verse has to do with mature, full age, complete, and finished. It is not the "perfect" that we think of. Often we think of "perfect" in terms of without blemish, the very best possible, without mistakes. But that is not what is intended by this Greek word. So we are talking about a mature love. This is not a love that is immature or still in the process of growing up. This is the kind of love a parent has for their child. It is a love that has fully matured.
So, when our love is mature or fully developed then we will not have fear. A mature love casts out fear. Think of when you where little and you woke up from a bad dream. Your Mom or Dad would come into your room and comfort you. When they were done you would no longer be afraid. That is what "perfect love" does. It eliminates fear. Perfect love eradicates fear.
Speak the Word:Father I will not fear. Your love has eradicated all fear in my life. I know you love me and care for me.
