Luke 10:38-42 New Living Translation (NLT) 38 As Jesus and the disciples continued on their way to Jerusalem, they came to a village where a woman named Martha welcomed them into her home. 39 Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord's feet, listening to what he taught. 40 But Martha was worrying over the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, "Lord, doesn't it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me."
41 But the Lord said to her, "My dear Martha, you are so upset over all these details! 42 There is really only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it--and I won't take it away from her."
Martha was "too busy". She had a lot of people in her home. There was cleaning to do, food to fix, clothes to wash. Martha was overworked. Imagine if your parents showed up at your house and they had brought a bunch of hungry friends with them. Here you are rushing about preparing food for them. Maybe it was like that at your house during Thanksgiving or Christmas. Martha was overworked and she asked Jesus to get Mary to help her.
Now notice what Jesus said "There is really only one thing worth being concerned about." All that stuff you thought was so important, is not as important as you thought. Sit at the feet of Jesus. Spend some time in prayer and in the Word of God. That is the most important thing you can do today or any day.
Speak the Word: Father, I love spending time with you. I have discovered what is most important and it will not be taken away from me. I will spend time with Jesus.
