Proverbs 4:20-22 Amplified Bible (AMP)
20 My son, attend to my words; consent and submit to my sayings.
21 Let them not depart from your sight; keep them in the center of your heart.
22 For they are life to those who find them, healing and health to all their flesh.
When you attend to something you work on it. You put forth effort and time. When you attend to God's Word it will take effort and time on your part. It won't happen by osmosis. You won't get it just because you heard a good sermon. You have to put in the time and read the Word for your self.
God is calling you His son (or daughter). God affectionately cares for you and He is trying to get something to you. Sometimes when God asks us to do something we look at what we are losing instead of what we are gaining. God has been dealing with me about exercising and the food I eat. I have to focus on what I am gaining instead of what I am losing. By taking care of my body I am serving/worshipping God (Rom 12:1-2). I will live longer. I will feel better. I will have more energy and greater strength. I will not get tired as easily.
God tenderly cares about you. When you read something in the Word of God that sounds difficult to do just realize that God is trying to bless you and build you up. He is not trying to take something away from you.
Speak the Word: Father I put effort and time into studying the Word of God. For the Word of God is life, healing, and health to all my flesh.
