1 Samuel 8:19-22 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
19 Nevertheless, the people refused to listen to the voice of Samuel, and they said, "No, but there shall be a king over us,

20 that we also may be like all the nations, that our king may judge us and go out before us and fight our battles."

21 Now after Samuel had heard all the words of the people, he repeated them in the LORD'S hearing.

22 The LORD said to Samuel, "Listen to their voice and appoint them a king." So Samuel said to the men of Israel, "Go every man to his city."

It was NOT God's will for Israel to have a King. In fact God warns Israel that a King would be wicked and do harm to the Nation (1 Samuel 8:6-18). Israel refuses to obey God and continued to ask for a King. In verse 22 God tells Samuel to appoint them a king.

God will always treat us with gentleness and kindness. If we insist on doing things our way He will let us have what we ask for, even if it will hurt us. We have to be very careful to seek God's will. At times I have insisted on doing it my way. God let me and I made a big mess of things. It took a long time to get out of the hole I dug. Don't let it happen to you. Be diligent about obeying the Word of God in everything. Life works when you live it God's way.

I want to stress this point because it will save you from a lot of suffering. If your will is different from God's will then do it God's way. God will let you do it your way, but it will never work out. Do everything God's way and you will always have good success.

Love compelled God to give Israel a King. Sometimes with people you are leading (children, employees, church members, etc.) you have to let them have their way, even when you know it is a mistake. You have to let them grow. As you lead people be compelled by love.

Speak the Word:Father, have your way in my life. I yield my life to you. I obey you in everything you ask me to do. I am compelled by love in everything I do.
