Hebrews 12:1-2 New International Version (NIV) 1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. 2 Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Sometimes it is hard to fight against the flesh. Are you struggling with sin in your life? This verse talks about laying it aside. It sounds like we can just lay that sin down and walk away from it. I quit smoking that way. Three times a day I quoted - Ps 31:1-5, Ps 31:7, Ps 46:1, Ps 55:18, Ps 46:5, Ps 107:6, Prov 3:26, Prov 26:11, Isa 41:13, Jn 8:36, Rom 8:2, 1 Cor 3:16-17, Phil. 4:7, 1 Jn 3:8b. I had them written on 3X5 cards and I read them at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. After about 3 weeks I just laid the cigarettes down and never picked them up again. Now, I did not get into condemnation, I did not tell myself how bad and lazy I was. I focused on the Word instead. The Word of God built up my spirit and I just laid those cigarettes down. You can do the same. Build yourself up on the Word of God and you will lay down that sin that is stopping you from fulfilling God's will for your life.
Speak the Word:Father, I thank you for forgiving all of my sins. Father I focus my mind on the Word of God. I will lay down the sin(s) that is stopping me from doing your will.
