2 Corinthians 10:5 Amplified Bible (AMP)
5 [Inasmuch as we] refute arguments and theories and reasonings and every proud and lofty thing that sets itself up against the [true] knowledge of God; and we lead every thought and purpose away captive into the obedience of Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One),

Some of the thoughts that come into your mind are not your thoughts. When you are sitting and watching TV you are exposing your mind to somebody else's thoughts. Do those thoughts support what the Bible teaches?

When you are talking with somebody, you are exposed to their thoughts. Listen to what they are telling you and judge them against the Word of God. Do those thoughts agree with and line up with the Word of God?

When you are alone some of those thoughts will come back up. When I was younger, it used to frustrate me. I would not want those thoughts in my mind. I would feel bad because I thought I should not have those kinds of thoughts. I heard Kenneth Hagin say it this way, "You can not stop the birds from flying over head, but you can stop them from making a nest in your hair". You can not stop those bad thoughts from crossing your mind, but you can stop them from staying and making their home in you mind. God is asking us to do something we are capable of doing. We can take every thought captive to the obedience of the teachings of Jesus.

Philippians 4:8 Amplified Bible (AMP)
8 For the rest, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of reverence and is honorable and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely and lovable, whatever is kind and winsome and gracious, if there is any virtue and excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on and weigh and take account of these things [fix your minds on them].

If a bad thought comes into your mind then stop and fix your mind on Jesus. If something contrary to the teachings of Jesus comes into your mind then think about something in the Word of God. If an unrighteous thought comes into your mind set your attention on what Jesus would do. Do not get into condemnation. Just focus or fix your mind on something else.

As you do this you will find that living for God is the greatest life you could have ever dreamed of. You will be living a life you love. You will have mercy and goodness following you everywhere you go.

Speak the Word: Father, I am fixing my mind on your thoughts. I am focusing my mind on the Word of God and I will not change my focus.
