2 Corinthians 10:3-5 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh,

4 for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses.

5 We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ,

What are you thinking about? What goes through your mind during the day? Are you winning the battle or have you lost before the first shot was fired? You see the battle starts in your mind. You will win or lose because of what you are thinking about.

The war is between God and Satan. Satan is doing everything he can to stop God. The main area that Satan will work on you is in your thoughts. Master your thought life and you will have mastered your life. Learn to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.

What does "obedience of Christ" mean? Let's take a look as a few different versions of the Bible.

2 Corinthians 10:5 The Message (MSG)

5 We use our powerful God-tools for smashing warped philosophies, tearing down barriers erected against the truth of God, fitting every loose thought and emotion and impulse into the structure of life shaped by Christ.

2 Corinthians 10:5 Amplified Bible (AMP)

5 [Inasmuch as we] refute arguments and theories and reasonings and every proud and lofty thing that sets itself up against the [true] knowledge of God; and we lead every thought and purpose away captive into the obedience of Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One),

2 Corinthians 10:5 New Living Translation (NLT)

5 With these weapons we break down every proud argument that keeps people from knowing God. With these weapons we conquer their rebellious ideas, and we teach them to obey Christ.

Thoughts are like people. You have to be around them all day long but you do not have to be friends with them. You can not stop the thoughts from coming into your mind, but you can choose whether you want to be friends with that thought. If a thought does not line up with the Word of God (obedience to Christ) then do not think that thought. Find something else to think about instead.

When you get your thinking lined up with the Word of God, it will not be long before your speaking and doing will line up as well.

Speak the Word: Father, I take every thought, philosophy, reasoning, proud argument, and imagination captive to the teaching of Christ.
