Deuteronomy 30:19-20 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

19 "I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants,

20 by loving the LORD your God, by obeying His voice, and by holding fast to Him; for this is your life and the length of your days, that you may live in the land which the LORD swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them."

Starting Free Bible Email was an opportunity for me to choose life. God had given me the knowledge and the ability to start Free Bible Email. I had the choice. I did not have to start Free Bible Email, I chose to. In your life, you will have many opportunities to choose to love God, to obey God and to cleave to God. Choose life, choose to do those things that God has asked you to do.

Recently someone asked a group of people to help with a prison ministry. One person said, "Jesus would have to come in the flesh and ask me to do that!" This woman felt strongly that prison ministry was not her calling. I want you to notice that choosing life is not based on what you want to do. Choosing life is based on "loving God", "obeying God", and "cleaving to God".

Is ministering to inmates an act of love towards God? Yes, absolutely. Jesus said, "Whatever you do to the least of these my brethren you have done to me". When you show kindness to Christians, you have done it to Jesus. Jesus takes it personally.

Matthew 25:37-40 New International Version (NIV)

37 "Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'

40 "The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'

Is ministering to inmates obeying God?

Matthew 22:37-40 The Message (MSG)

37 Jesus said, ""Love the Lord your God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence.' 38 This is the most important, the first on any list. 39 But there is a second to set alongside it: "Love others as well as you love yourself.' 40 These two commands are pegs; everything in God's Law and the Prophets hangs from them."

Is ministering to inmates cleaving to God?

Matthew 18:20 Amplified Bible (AMP)

20 For wherever two or three are gathered (drawn together as My followers) in (into) My name, there I AM in the midst of them.

When you make, decisions do not ask yourself "Do I want to?" Most of the time you will not be choosing life. Instead ask your self "Is it a loving act towards God?", "Will I be obeying God?", and "Is it cleaving to God?". If the answer is yes to ONE or more of these then that would be choosing life. So, choose life!

Speak the Word: Father, I look for opportunities to choose life! I look for opportunities to love you, to obey you, and to cleave to you.
