James 1:2-4 New King James Version (NKJV)
2 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.
Hebrews 6:12 New International Version (NIV)
12 We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.
I had done a job for several years and I had just had enough. I was done and I wanted to quit. However, I knew that God wanted me to stay at this job. I knew that God did not want me to quit and I stayed at that job.
I found that I could have joy in the midst of a trial. I found that when I determined in my mind and my heart to stay because God wanted me to stay that I had the grace or the ability to do the job with joy. Everything changed when I stopped resisting. Once I stopped fighting God's will, it started to get easier to stay there. I decided "this is God's will for me and I will do God's will with thankfulness and excellence". You have to choose to do what God has told you to do. Set your mind on being obedient to God and you will have the grace you need to complete the task God has given you.
When you surrender to God's will, you will go from considering it joy to having joy. You can have joy in the midst of trials. It starts with the decision… "I will have joy". It starts with the decision and the emotion will follow. Do not wait for the emotion. The emotion will not come before you make the decision. In fact, the emotion will not come until you stop disliking or hating the trial. As you consider or count it as joy, you will find that joy will spring up. Start creating the habit of praising and thanking God. Give God your praise and you will have the grace you need to endure.
Speak the Word: Father, I consider my trials as joy and I am perfect and complete, lacking nothing.
