3 John 1:2 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
2 Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers.
Taking control of your thoughts is part of the process of prospering in your soul. Your soul is made up of your mind, will, and emotions. To control your mind you have to master your thoughts.
Think about an area of your life that seems to have control over you. Every time you do such and such you immediately say to yourself "I wish I had not done that" or "I just can't stop myself" or something similar.
Philippians 4:13 New King James Version (NKJV)
13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
You can control that area of your life through Jesus. The Word of God promises that you can do ALL things. What is left out after ALL? Nothing. Nothing is left out. The power of God is available to you to remove every burden and every yoke that you will ever face.

5 We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ,
If your thoughts do not line up with the Word of God then change your thoughts. Destroy every thought (refuse to think those thoughts) that do not agree with "I can do all things through Christ (the one who removes burdens and the power to remove burdens) who strengthens me".
Speak the Word: Father I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me. I cast down every thought that does not line up with the Word of God.
