Acts 1:8 Amplified Bible (AMP)
8 But you shall receive power (ability, efficiency, and might) when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be My witnesses in Jerusalem and all Judea and Samaria and to the ends (the very bounds) of the earth.
Power changes things. Power removes burdens and destroys yokes. When the disciples received the Holy Spirit in the upper room they began to work miracles. They began to preach the Gospel of Jesus "the one who removes burdens and the power to remove burdens". It was that burden removing, yoke destroying power that changed the world.
We are the last generation before the return of Jesus and we need the same power in our lives. When I received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues I received power.
Praying in tongues has done a number of things for me. It has helped me enjoy my life more. When I am under pressure I have found it easier to deal with. It is as if God just made everything easier to deal with. I have overcome bad habits that nothing else seemed to help me with. I find it easier to get up and pray and study the word in the mornings. I find it easier to walk in love with my wife instead of getting angry with her. I am more aware of the presence of God during my day. Praying in tongues has given me greater strength in every area of my life.
Speak the Word: Father, I receive power. I receive the power that you give when the Holy Spirit has come upon me. I receive everything that you have for me.
